Previously: When Clara's wealthy father confronted her husband in the hospital room about a secret monthly allowance, a beautiful moment turned into a nightmare—until Clara revealed where the money really went.

The Depth of Betrayal

The silence in the hospital room was suffocating. Thomas slowly let the gift bag slip from his fingers. It hit the linoleum floor with a dull thud, the colorful tissue paper spilling out like a mockery of their ruined celebration. He stared at Clara, his eyes wide with a mixture of raw pain and confusion. He had worked eighty hours a week at the auto shop, coming home with grease-stained hands and an aching back, all to prove he could provide for his family without her wealthy father's help.

"What money, Clara?"

Thomas’s voice was barely a whisper, cracking under the weight of his heartbreak. Robert let out a cold, mocking laugh, adjusting his cuffs. He looked down his nose at Thomas, thoroughly enjoying the young man's distress.

"Don't play the innocent fool," Robert sneered. "I have been wiring ten thousand dollars a month to my daughter's private account. And yet, look at you. You still live in that run-down apartment, and my grandson is born in a public ward. Where is my family's money going, Thomas? Are you using her?"

Thomas felt as if the air had been sucked from his lungs. He looked at Clara, tears streaming down his face.

"You took money from him?" Thomas choked out. "After he called my mother a parasite? After he refused to even attend our wedding? Clara, how could you?"

Eleanor stepped forward, her face pale. She placed a comforting hand on her son's trembling shoulder, but her eyes were fixed on Clara, filled with deep disappointment. Clara sat in the hospital bed, holding her baby tightly as her world crumbled. Her father smirked, confident that his plan to expose Thomas as a gold-digger and destroy their marriage had succeeded.

But Clara knew she couldn't keep the secret any longer. Trembling, she reached for her purse on the bedside table and pulled out a thick manila envelope. She drew a deep breath, looking past her smirking father straight at her broken husband.

"I never spent a single penny of that money on myself, Thomas. And I certainly didn't give it to you," Clara said.

She handed the envelope to Eleanor, whose hands shook as she pulled out the bank statements.
