A Miracle on the Gravel Driveway

The afternoon sun cast long, golden shadows across the sweeping gravel driveway of the Vance estate. For twenty-two-year-old Clara, the beautiful grounds were nothing more than a picturesque prison. Three years ago, a devastating car accident had stolen her mother’s life and left Clara’s legs completely paralyzed. Since then, her father, Richard, a powerful and fiercely protective billionaire, had kept her isolated from the world. Clara stood on her crutches, her lavender dress swaying gently in the breeze, watching a young man approach her with a strange determination.

He was nineteen, with untidy light brown hair and a dirty denim shirt that suggested he had traveled a long distance on foot. In his hands, he carried a simple, round metal tub filled with warm water. Without a word of explanation, he knelt on the sharp gravel right at Clara's feet. Clara’s breath hitched. She watched in silent bewilderment as he gently placed her bare feet into the water.

"I'll help you walk," Toby whispered, looking up at her with intense, soulful eyes.

Before Clara could process his words, a harsh voice shattered the quiet. Richard rushed out of the grand estate doors, his tailored dark blue suit sharp against the rustic driveway. "Hey, stop!" he shouted, marching toward them with fury in his eyes.

"Please, just a second," Toby pleaded, keeping his hands submerged in the water, holding Clara’s feet.
"I can't," Clara whimpered, overwhelmed by a sudden, intense warmth radiating from her soles.
"You can," Toby insisted.

Richard stepped in angrily, towering over the young stranger. "Get away from her. Inside, now!" he commanded. But Clara wasn't listening. A gasp escaped her lips as she stared down at her feet. For the first time in three years, she felt the temperature of the water. She felt the solid metal of the tub. Tears of sheer joy streamed down her face as she looked at her stunned father.

"Dad, I felt that," Clara cried.

Richard’s face drained of color, his anger instantly melting into profound shock. Seizing the moment of distraction, Toby stood up and pulled a silver medallion from his pocket. "My mother said you'd remember this," Toby said quietly.
