Previously: When Jesse stopped a crowded rodeo to make a shocking proposal, Elena was forced to face her darkest fears to save her family from a ruthless billionaire.

A Price Too High to Pay

High above the dirt arena, sitting in the luxury VIP box, was Marcus Vance, Jesse’s billionaire father. His face was a mask of cold fury. Three years ago, Marcus had threatened to ruin Elena’s family if she didn't leave Jesse. He had bought up her father's crippling agricultural debt, using it as a weapon. To save her family from bankruptcy, Elena had lied to Jesse, claiming she was leaving for Nashville to pursue fame, breaking his heart. But tragedy struck on her way out of town—a car accident took her mother’s life and left Elena with a psychological trauma that completely severed her connection to her singing voice.

Jesse had only recently discovered the truth about his father's blackmail. Desperate to free Elena and her father, Jesse had made a high-stakes gamble with Marcus. He wagered his entire inheritance and his future: if Elena could find her voice and sing their song in front of the whole town, Marcus would legally forgive her family’s debt and let them be. If she failed, Jesse would have to surrender his share of the family empire and marry the woman his father had chosen for him.

Now, standing at the microphone, Elena opened her mouth, but nothing came out. The silence stretched, heavy and suffocating. In the VIP box, Marcus stood up with a triumphant sneer, waving a legal document. He signaled his security team to escort Elena out of the arena for disrupting the event. Jesse took a step toward her, his eyes pleading, tears streaming down his face as he realized his desperate plan was collapsing. The security guards closed in, and it seemed as though Marcus had won once again.
