My Generous Act for a Homeless Woman Uncovered My Late Mother’s Dark Secret
Previously: When a struggling waitress offers a free bowl of soup to an elderly woman with no money, she receives a mysterious note that changes her entire life forever.
The Secret in the Note
Megan slipped the mysterious note into her apron pocket as her boss, Mr. Vance, stepped out of his office. He was a cold, calculating man who ran the diner with an iron fist. Feeling her heart race, Megan waited until Vance was occupied with a delivery at the back door before she slipped into the dry storage pantry to read the message.
With trembling fingers, she unfolded the yellowed paper. The elegant handwriting read:
"Megan, look at the silver locket around your neck. It belonged to my daughter, Clara. I am Hazel, your grandmother. I have searched for you both for twenty years. The man you work for is not who he claims to be. He stole this diner from our family and forced Clara into hiding. Do not trust him."
Megan gasped, her hand flying to the silver locket she wore every day. Her mother had always warned her to keep her past a secret, but she had never explained why. Suddenly, the puzzle pieces began to fall into place. But before Megan could process the shocking revelation, the pantry door swung open.
Mr. Vance stood there, his eyes narrowed in suspicion.
"What are you doing hiding in here, Megan? And who was that old woman you were just feeding for free?"he sneered, stepping into the tight space.
Megan tried to squeeze past him, but Vance blocked her path. His eyes darted down to her neck, locking onto the silver locket. His face grew pale, his expression shifting from anger to absolute malice.
"Where did you get that?"he hissed, grabbing her wrist with a grip like iron.
"That belonged to Clara. Where is she?"
"Let go of me!"Megan cried, struggling to break free. Vance's eyes burned with a desperate rage.
"You have her eyes. You're her brat, aren't you? Give me that locket!"
