As Richard regained his footing, his shock quickly curdled back into arrogance. He straightened his midnight blue jacket, glaring at Thomas with pure venom. "What are you doing here, old man?" Thomas didn't flinch. He stood tall, his broad shoulders blocking Richard's view of Clara and the baby.

Clara looked between her father and her husband, confusion mixing with her terror. She and Thomas had been estranged ever since she married Richard, mostly because Richard had convinced her that her father was controlling and disapproved of their love. Now, seeing her father stand as her protector, the scales began to fall from her eyes.
Thomas reached into his charcoal coat pocket and pulled out a thick manila envelope, tossing it onto the bedside table.
"I never stopped watching over you, Clara," Thomas said softly, before turning a cold glare back to Richard. "I hired investigators the moment you cut me off. This man didn't marry you for love. He married you for the trust fund your grandfather left you—the one that only unlocks upon the birth of your first child."
Richard’s face drained of color. "That's a lie!" he shouted, though his voice trembled. "She's crazy, and you're trespassing!"
Thomas stepped closer to Richard, his voice dropping to a harsh whisper.
"I have the offshore account statements, Richard. I have the signed contract where you promised to pay off your massive gambling debts the moment Clara's trust cleared. And I have the security footage of you with your mistress, planning to declare Clara mentally unfit to take sole custody of the baby and the money."
