My Husband Forced Me Onto a Late Subway, Unaware My Friend Was Behind Us
Previously: When Sarah's husband insisted on a sudden, late-night subway ride, she sensed something was wrong. But she never expected her childhood friend to be standing right behind them, holding a terrifying secret.
The Confrontation on the Platform
The words on the crumpled paper burned into Sarah’s mind. Every memory of her marriage—the sudden financial decisions Mark had made, his insistence on isolating her from her loved ones, his sudden bursts of anger—suddenly fell into a terrifyingly clear pattern. He wasn't her protector. He was her captor, and he was about to steal everything her parents had left her.
"Next stop, 21st Street - Queensbridge," the automated transit voice droned over the intercom. The train began to slow down, its brakes squealing in protest.

Mark’s grip on her wrist tightened to a painful squeeze. "This is us," he muttered, his voice cold and devoid of the warmth she had loved for years. "Let's go, Sarah."
Sarah planted her feet on the dirty floor. "Mark, wait. I... I feel incredibly sick. My stomach is cramping. Can we please just stay on until the next station? There's a hospital near there."
Mark’s face twisted into a mask of pure malice. The loving husband was gone, replaced by a desperate, cornered predator. "We are getting off here, Sarah," he growled, pulling her violently to her feet. "Don't make a scene, or things will get very ugly, very fast."
"No!" Sarah cried out, trying to wrench her arm free. "I'm not going with you!"
Before she could scream, Mark shoved his right hand into his hoodie pocket. He pressed a hard, metallic object directly against her ribs through her jacket. "You are coming with me," he hissed in her ear, "or we both die on this train. Choose right now."
Just as the train came to a complete halt, Ethan stepped directly into the aisle, blocking the exit doors. "Let her go, Mark," Ethan demanded, his voice echoing in the nearly empty car.
Mark froze, his eyes widening in shock before narrowing into venomous rage. "Ethan," he snarled. "I should have known you’d be sniffing around. Step aside, or I swear I'll put a bullet in her right here."
The pneumatic doors slid open, revealing the dark, cavernous, and utterly deserted Queensbridge platform. Mark wrapped his left arm tightly around Sarah's neck, using her as a human shield, and began dragging her backward out of the car. Ethan kept his hands raised, stepping out onto the platform after them, desperately trying to de-escalate the nightmare.
