Lauren's wedding day was supposed to be a fairy tale, but it turned into a public execution of her dignity. The grand banquet hall of the estate was filled with the soft glow of chandeliers, the air rich with the scent of lilies and expensive champagne. Lauren, wearing an exquisite lace-covered gown, sat at the head table next to her new husband, Tyler. She was exhausted, having spent the last year planning every detail of this day, only to realize too late that she was marrying into a family of vipers.

During the toast, Lauren felt a sudden wave of dizziness. As she tried to adjust her position, her foot caught in the heavy tulle of her underskirt. The chair tipped backward, and with a sudden, sharp gasp, Lauren fell hard onto the polished marble floor.

The room went dead silent. Lauren lay there, her heart hammering against her ribs, waiting for Tyler to help her up. Instead, she heard a soft chuckle. She looked up to see Tyler, looking dashing in his satin-lapel tuxedo, swirling his champagne glass.

"Wow, too slow," Tyler muttered, a smirk playing on his lips.

The guests, taking their cue from the groom, began to titter and whisper. Then, Diane, Tyler’s mother, stepped forward. Draped in a shimmering gold dress and holding a wine glass, she looked down at Lauren with pure malice.

"What a shame," Diane sneered, her voice carrying across the silent room. "She doesn't even know how to sit properly."

Tears stung Lauren's eyes, but as she looked at the mocking faces of her new family, the sadness hardened into ice. She wiped her face, slowly stood up, and slid the massive diamond ring off her finger, dropping it onto the table with a sharp clink. Just then, the grand double doors of the hall swung open. Steven, a sharp lawyer in a navy wool suit, walked in carrying a briefcase. Lauren looked at Tyler and whispered, "My lawyer is already here."
