Previously: After losing his sight in a tragic accident, Robert thought his wife was his only savior—until his nine-year-old stepdaughter revealed a chilling truth in the garden.

A Toxic Devotion

The silence that followed Maya’s words was deafening. Robert sat paralyzed on the stone bench, the warmth of the afternoon suddenly feeling like an icy trap. He could hear Emily’s rapid, shallow breathing from a few feet away.

"Emily?" Robert called out, his voice shaking. "What is she talking about?"

Emily scrambled forward, her heels clicking frantically on the gravel.

"She’s just making things up, Robert! You know how kids are. Maya, go to your room right now!" she pleaded, her voice laced with panic.

But Maya stood her ground, tears streaming down her face.

"No! I saw you, Mommy! Every day, you put those blue drops from the hidden cabinet into Daddy’s tea. You told me it was vitamins, but I looked up the bottle. It’s the medicine that dilates eyes and makes people dizzy and blind!"

The pieces of a horrific puzzle instantly fell into place in Robert's mind. He remembered the constant brain fog, the perpetual dizziness that began shortly after his car accident, and how his vision seemed to worsen only after breakfast and afternoon tea. The doctors had always been baffled as to why his optical nerves were perfectly healthy yet he remained blind. It wasn't the accident; it was his wife.

"Is this true, Emily?" Robert demanded, standing up and reaching out blindly. "Drink the tea. If it's just tea, drink it right now!"

Emily let out a shattered sob, collapsing to her knees.

"I had to, Robert! Before the accident, I found the divorce papers on your desk. You were going to leave me! I knew that if you needed me, if you couldn't survive without me, you would never go. I did it because I love you!"

Horrified by her twisted confession, Robert stepped back, but Emily’s desperation turned into dark resolve. She lunged toward the stone table, trying to grab the teacup to destroy the evidence before he could call the police.
