Previously: When Andrew’s mother sent a casket to our wedding, we thought it was a sick joke. But then, the lid began to open, revealing a dark family secret.

Eleanor tapped the document in her hand with a manicured nail. "You think you have a choice, Andrew? If you don't come with me right now, and if this girl doesn't go back to where she belongs, I will ruin Megan's family. I own the mortgage on her parents' estate, and I will foreclose on them by tomorrow morning. You will both be penniless, disgraced, and homeless."

I felt a wave of despair wash over me. My parents had worked their entire lives for their home, and Eleanor had quietly bought out their debt just to use it as leverage. But Andrew didn't back down. Instead, a slow, confident smile spread across his face, replacing the fear that had gripped him moments before.

"You really should have checked the trees, Mother," Andrew said softly.

Eleanor frowned, looking around the woodland clearing. Tucked neatly into the branches of the peony arches and the surrounding pines were small, high-definition cameras. Andrew pointed to them, his smile widening.

A Sweet Victory

"We knew you would try something, Eleanor," Andrew explained, his voice echoing in the quiet forest. "So we decided to livestream our entire wedding to all our friends, family, and most importantly, the local police department and the board of directors of your firm. Every single word Clara just said, and every threat you just made, was broadcast live to thousands of people."

As if on cue, the distant wail of police sirens grew louder, echoing through the trees. Eleanor’s face drained of all color. Her security guards immediately backed away, raising their hands as three police cruisers tore into the clearing, surrounding the SUV.

Eleanor was swiftly handcuffed and led away, screaming curses at us, while Clara was gently assisted by paramedics, finally free from her living nightmare. With the chaos cleared, Andrew turned to me, taking my hands in his. The priest, shaking but determined, stepped back up to the altar.

We finished our vows under the warm afternoon sun, surrounded by the beauty of nature and the sweet taste of freedom. True love doesn't just survive the darkest storms; it shines brightest when exposing the truth.
