Previously: When Evelyn violently destroyed her granddaughter’s birthday cake, her family was horrified. But the dark secret behind her sudden outburst revealed a truth they never saw coming.

A Terrifying Mistake

John’s heart hammered against his ribs as he comforted his trembling daughter. He looked at Evelyn, who was now weeping on the sofa, clutching her chest. He had never seen his mother act with such senseless violence. She was always the gentle matriarch, the one who baked cookies and read bedtime stories. To ruin her granddaughter's birthday so publicly felt like a cruel betrayal.

"How could you do that?" John demanded, his voice shaking with anger. "Look at her! You ruined her birthday!"

Evelyn tried to speak, but only choked, incoherent sounds escaped her lips. She pointed a trembling finger at the ruined mess on the floor, then at the cardboard bakery box sitting on the counter. John, assuming she was having a psychological episode, stepped toward the kitchen to grab a glass of water for her. But as he passed the bakery box, a bright red warning label caught his eye.

He picked up the box, his eyes scanning the custom order slip. His breath caught in his throat. The bakery had mixed up their order. Instead of the allergen-free vanilla cake he had strictly requested, the slip read: "Special Order: Double Peanut Butter Blast." John’s blood ran cold. Emily had a severe, life-threatening peanut allergy. Even a single bite of that cake could have been fatal.
