My Mother Sent Me to a Luxury Boutique with Half a Locket
Previously: Humiliated by a wealthy woman in a high-end jewelry store, a young orphan is stunned when the elderly jeweler recognizes her mother's silver locket—and reveals a shocking family secret.
The Unraveling of a Lie
The boutique fell into a dead silence. Vanessa’s mocking smirk instantly vanished, replaced by a mask of pale fury. She lunged forward, attempting to snatch the locket back from Edward’s trembling hands. "Edward, don't be ridiculous!" she hissed, her voice sharp and frantic. "She’s obviously a thief who stole that cheap piece of metal from a homeless shelter. You can't seriously believe this street girl has any connection to your family!"
But Edward ignored Vanessa entirely. His tear-filled eyes were locked onto Clara’s face, searching her features for any sign of the daughter he had lost twenty-five years ago. "What was your mother's name, child?" he asked, his voice barely a whisper.
"Her name was Sarah," Clara sobbed, the weight of her grief and hope pouring out all at once. "She passed away last week. On her deathbed, she gave me this locket and told me to find the man who made it."
Vanessa panicked, grabbing Clara's arm and trying to drag her toward the heavy glass doors. "Get out of here! Security, throw this fraud out of the store!" she screamed, her elegant facade completely shattering. But Edward slammed his hand onto the mahogany counter with a force that startled everyone in the room.
"Touch her again, Vanessa, and I will have you arrested!" Edward roared, stepping out from behind the counter to shield Clara. "Sarah had a star-shaped birthmark on her right wrist, and so did her baby."
With trembling hands, Clara pulled back the sleeve of her worn coat, revealing the small, distinct star-shaped mark on her wrist. Edward gasped, his tears spilling over his spectacles. Seeing her plans crumble, Vanessa sneered and pulled a legal document from her designer bag. "It doesn't matter!" she shrieked. "You signed over the entire estate and this boutique to me last week, Edward! You have nothing left to give her!"
”You have nothing left to give her!"
