My Mother Threw My Wedding Dress in the Mud, Revealing My Fiancé's Darkest Secret
Previously: When Clara saw her wedding dress ruined in the mud, she thought her mother had lost her mind. But the truth held in a single framed photo changed everything.
The Trap is Sprung
Marcus walked down the porch steps, his boots squelching in the mud. He stopped a few feet away, looking down at the ruined wedding dress with utter contempt.
“You think you’re so smart, Evelyn,” Marcus sneered, his voice dripping with malice. “So what if we share some blood? Arthur left everything to Clara. This house, the estate, the offshore accounts. If she marries me, half of it becomes mine legally. And if she doesn't, I’ll drag this family’s name through the mud until there’s nothing left.”
Clara stared at the man she had loved, the horror fading from her face, replaced by a sudden, chilling calm. She stopped shivering. She stood tall in the pouring rain, looking directly into Marcus’s greedy eyes. “You really thought I was that blind, Marcus?” she asked, her voice remarkably quiet.
Marcus blinked, his smug smile faltering. “What are you talking about?”
Clara stepped forward, stepping right over her ruined wedding dress. “I found the journals three weeks ago,” she revealed, a cold fire in her eyes. “I knew exactly who you were. I knew you targeted me to get Arthur’s estate. That prenuptial agreement your lawyer insisted I sign? I had my own attorneys rewrite the secondary clauses. By signing it, you legally declared all your own assets as joint property, while entirely waiving your rights to my father's estate in the event of fraud or familial concealment.”
Marcus’s face drained of color. He reached into his pocket, his hands suddenly trembling as he pulled out his phone, desperately trying to contact his lawyer. Clara turned her back on him, walking over to her mother and gently taking the framed photo of her father from Evelyn’s hands.
Evelyn gasped, pulling Clara into a tight, tearful embrace. The rain continued to pour, washing away the mud from the white lace on the grass, symbol of a false future that Clara had successfully dismantled. Marcus stood alone in the storm, realizing he had lost his fortune, his dignity, and his freedom. Sometimes, the most painful truths are the ones that finally set us free.
