The Poisoned Banquet

The afternoon sun filtered beautifully through the glass dome of the botanical gardens, casting a warm, golden glow over the long banquet table. Raymond, a prominent real estate developer, sat at the head of the table, feeling a rare sense of peace. Beside him sat Charlotte, his stunning new wife, looking radiant in a white floral dress. They were celebrating a major business merger, surrounded by the city's elite. Raymond raised his fork, about to taste the exquisite lobster dish prepared especially for him, when a sudden commotion shattered the elegant atmosphere.

Through the manicured hedges ran Ethan, Raymond's eight-year-old son. His sandy hair was messy, his clothes were stained with dirt, and his face was flushed with panic. He ran straight toward the head table, pointing a trembling finger at Charlotte.

"Don't eat that! She put something in the food!" Ethan screamed, his voice cracking with fear.

The murmurs of the elite guests silenced instantly. Charlotte's face tightened, her warm smile vanishing as she stood up furiously, her white dress rustling. She glared at the boy with cold, venomous eyes.

"Security, get that kid out of here right now!" Charlotte commanded. "He is deeply disturbed and trying to ruin our special day!"

Raymond sat frozen, his fork hovering inches from his mouth. He looked at his terrified son, then at his elegant wife. Before the security guards could reach Ethan, Raymond's trusted bodyguard, Ryan, leaned down and whispered in his ear.

"Sir, the boy is telling the truth," Ryan whispered urgently. "I saw Charlotte near the buffet kitchen earlier, acting highly suspicious."

A chill ran down Raymond's spine. Ethan, seeing the hesitation, pointed directly at Charlotte's white leather handbag resting on her chair.

"There's a photo in her purse of the man she did this for!" Ethan yelled.

Charlotte's face drained of all color. "No! Don't open it!" she shrieked, lunging for the bag. But Raymond was faster. He grabbed the luxury handbag, his hands shaking as he unzipped it, preparing to face a reality that would shatter his life forever.
