Previously: When Prince Sebastian was forced to marry Princess Evelyn, he didn't expect her face to be locked in a wooden barrel. What lay inside changed his life forever.

The Final Choice

Sebastian stared at his father in absolute betrayal. The man who had raised him to value honor and duty was the mastermind behind this cruelty. "Why?" Sebastian demanded, his voice shaking. "She is an innocent princess!"

"She is the key to the kingdom," Duke Thomas sneered. "Charles and I staged this elaborate curse to force the council to hand over absolute power to us. The device is a fake, Sebastian. It won't explode, but the fear of it keeps everyone in line. Now, lock the latch and let the puppet play her part."

Evelyn let out a muffled sob from inside the barrel. Looking at her, Sebastian knew he could not be a part of his father's dark legacy. He pretended to step back, bowing his head in submission. But as his father stepped forward to adjust the device, Sebastian grabbed a heavy brass candelabra from his desk and struck the remote control out of his father's hand, shattering it on the hearth.

Duke Thomas gasped in shock, but before he could call for the guards, Sebastian snatched his father's master key ring from his belt. With swift, precise movements, Sebastian unlocked the heavy padlock on Evelyn's wooden barrel and lifted it off her head. He quickly used his shears to snip the silver threads, freeing her lips.

Evelyn gasped for air, immediately throwing her arms around Sebastian's neck. "Thank you," she cried softly. "They wanted to use us to start a war."

Instead of yielding to his father's threats, Sebastian and Evelyn escaped through the secret passage, taking the shattered pieces of the remote and the barrel as proof of the conspiracy. They presented the evidence directly to the royal council, exposing both King Charles and Duke Thomas. The corrupt rulers were stripped of their power and exiled, leaving Sebastian and Evelyn to rebuild the kingdom together, bound not by fear or forced treaties, but by true devotion and shared survival.
