My Sister Vanished From School, Then My Estranged Father Sent a Terrifying Text
Previously: When twenty-year-old Leo receives a frantic alert that his little sister has been taken from school, a mysterious text from his estranged father leads him into a web of dark family secrets.
The Confrontation at the Grand Oak
Leo ran as fast as his legs could carry him, dodging tourists and pushing through heavy glass doors into the quiet luxury of The Grand Oak. He didn't care about the judgmental glares from the staff. His eyes scanned the elegant dining room until he spotted them in a corner booth. Clara was there, sipping juice, sitting across from a man in an expensive gray suit.
Leo marched over and slammed his hands on the table, shielding his sister. "Get away from her!" he barked. Clara gasped, immediately wrapping her arms around his waist. "Leo! You're here!" she cried.

Richard stood up slowly, looking older and far more exhausted than Leo remembered. "Leo, please, keep your voice down," he pleaded. "I didn't kidnap her. I'm trying to protect her."
"Protect her?" Leo spat, his eyes burning with tears of rage. "You walked out on us ten years ago! You left Mom to struggle alone, and now you show up with fake custody papers?"
Richard shook his head, his expression filled with genuine pain. "They aren't fake, Leo. And I never wanted to leave you. Your grandfather, Arthur, forced my hand. He threatened to ruin your mother and put you both in foster care if I didn't disappear. I've been sending money secretly for years to keep you afloat."
Before Leo could process the shocking revelation, Richard slid a thick legal folder across the table. "Arthur is dying, and he wants Clara. He bribed a judge to get custody so he can control her inheritance. His lawyers were on their way to her school today. I had to get to her first."
Just then, the restaurant’s entrance doors swung open. A cold shiver ran down Leo's spine as an elderly man leaning on a silver-topped cane walked in, flanked by two burly men in dark suits. It was Arthur. Richard grabbed Leo's shoulder, his voice a desperate whisper: "We have to run, right now, or we lose her forever."
