The humiliation of the gala forced Victoria to retreat to the private quarters of the mansion, dragging a weeping Toby and a pale, trembling Clara with her. You told me his birth parents were anonymous."

Richard sank into an armchair, burying his face in his hands. The truth was finally unraveling. He admitted that seven years ago, desperate to give Victoria the baby she desperately wanted after years of failed fertility treatments, he had secretly arranged a private surrogacy with Clara.
