The Wedding Day Disaster

The air in the converted sports car dealership crackled with an opulent, almost suffocating, tension. Gleaming obsidian floors mirrored the cold, sharp lines of neon lights and the decadent glow of crystal chandeliers, all softened by a haze of dry-ice fog. It was a stage set for a wedding, but not one of joy. A crimson supercar, the centerpiece of the showroom, spun slowly on a turntable, flanked by pristine white floral arrangements. The deep hum of performance engines seemed to underscore the unease, a low thrumming beneath the polite murmurs of the guests.

Courtney Sterling, 29, preened in his bespoke ivory silk tuxedo. His blonde hair was slicked into a perfect pompadour, and his diamond cufflinks glinted under the lights. He exuded an arrogant vanity that seemed to belong more to the cars than to any human being. Beside him stood Ruth, his 18-year-old groom. Ruth was a stark contrast, swallowed by an oversized charcoal wool suit, his young face pale and his fingers trembling as he clutched a miniature die-cast Porsche. Tears welled in his lower eyelids, a silent testament to his misery.

Three paces away, Salvatore Moretti, Ruth’s father, stood like a statue of granite. At 58, his build was heavy, his navy three-piece suit worn but dignified. His face was a roadmap of a life lived by hard work – weathered skin, calloused scarred knuckles, and a jaw set with resolute determination. He watched the scene unfold with an unnerving stillness.

Courtney Sterling: "Learn your place, you worthless freak, before you contaminate my wedding!"

Suddenly, Courtney's open right hand shot out, striking Ruth across the face with vicious velocity. The sharp crack ricocheted through the showroom. Ruth’s head snapped sideways, his knees buckling as he crumpled onto the obsidian floor. The miniature Porsche clattered away from his trembling fingers. He remained silent, his mouth shut tight, curled on the floor, chin quivering, eyes wide with paralyzed shock.
