My Wife Forced My Daughter to Clean—Then a Silver Bracelet Exposed Her Lie
The Homecoming
David clutched the beige teddy bear tightly as he unlocked the heavy oak doors of his luxury estate. He had cut his business trip short by two days, eager to surprise his twelve-year-old daughter, Lily. He expected to hear her laughter echoing through the high-ceilinged hallways, but instead, a heavy, suffocating silence greeted him. As he stepped into the grand foyer, the sharp scent of ammonia stung his nose.
Then, he saw her. Lily was kneeling on the polished marble floor, wearing stained canvas overalls. Her small hands were red and raw as she gripped a heavy mop, her face streaked with tears. She was sobbing quietly, staring at the floor. "Dad, where are you?" she whispered to herself, unaware that he was standing just feet away.
David’s heart shattered. He dropped the teddy bear. "Why is she on the floor?" he demanded, his voice echoing through the empty space.
At the top of the sweeping staircase stood Victoria, his refined new wife. She held a goblet of white wine, her dark ponytail draped elegantly over her shoulder. She looked down at him with cold, calculating eyes.
"Why are you home early, David?"she asked, completely ignoring his question.
Lily gasped, looking up. When she saw David, she scrambled to her feet, tears flowing fresh. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a heavy silver bracelet. "Grandpa gave it to me," she sobbed, holding it tightly.
Victoria’s face paled. She rushed down the stairs, her heels clicking aggressively on the stone.
"She doesn't know what she's saying!"Victoria snapped, reaching out to snatch the jewelry. But Lily pulled back, looking at David with desperate eyes.
"He said only you should read it,"she cried.
"He said I'm the real heir to this house!"
