At the sound of Richard’s voice, the hallway went dead silent. Beatrice gasped, her face instantly draining of color as she spun around. She quickly tried to smooth her dress, plastering a sweet, innocent smile onto her face. But the transition from cruel tormentor to loving wife was too late; Richard had seen everything.

"Richard! Oh, darling, you're home early!" Beatrice stuttered, taking a step toward him. "It’s really not what it looks like. Your mother had a little accident with her tea, and she insisted on cleaning it up herself. I was just... supervising to make sure she didn't slip."

Richard ignored his wife, his eyes fixed on his mother, who was still trembling on the floor, too terrified to speak. He looked up at his son, whose head was bowed in shame.

"Liam," Richard said, his voice deadly quiet. "Tell me exactly what is going on in my house."

Beatrice shot Liam a warning, icy glare, but the young man had reached his breaking point. The guilt of his silence had become too heavy to bear.

"Dad, she’s lying," Liam said, his voice shaking but resolute. "Beatrice has been doing this for weeks. Every time you leave for a business trip, she treats Grandma like a servant. She makes her scrub the floors, wash her clothes, and calls her useless. She threatened Grandma, telling her that if she complained to you, she would convince you that Grandma is losing her mind and have her locked away in a state asylum."

Eleanor let out a soft, defeated whimper, confirming the horrible truth. Beatrice’s eyes flared with rage as she turned on Liam, screaming that he was a liar. She then turned back to Richard, pleading, "He’s just trying to ruin our marriage, Richard! Your mother is getting old and confused. You can't believe them over me!" But the mask had fully slipped, and Richard finally saw the monster behind the beautiful face.
