Previously: When a dirty stranger touched paralyzed Sophia’s feet, a warm light restored her legs. But his parting words unlocked a dark, forgotten truth about her husband.

The Unraveling of a Lie

Before Anna could summon the guards, the mysterious stranger vanished into the thick foliage of the estate. Sophia, trembling with an overwhelming surge of energy, did the unthinkable. She gripped the armrests of her wheelchair, pushed herself upward, and stood. Anna screamed in shock, dropping her tray. Sophia took one shaky step, then another, crying tears of absolute disbelief. The miracle was real—she could walk.

When her husband, Julian, returned home later that evening, Sophia expected him to weep with joy. Instead, when he saw her standing in the grand foyer, his face drained of color. He looked horrified, his hands trembling as he clutched his briefcase.

"This... this is impossible," Julian stammered, quickly masking his shock with a tight, forced smile. "It's a medical anomaly, darling. You must rest immediately. You shouldn't strain yourself."

Julian immediately insisted on giving her a heavy sedative to "calm her nerves," but Sophia’s instincts were screaming. Feigning compliance, she hid the pill under her tongue and spit it out once he left the room. Something was terribly wrong. Why was her husband terrified of her recovery? And who was the man with the golden touch?

Late that night, walking on her own two feet with a quiet, ghostly grace, Sophia crept up to the manor's dusty attic. She bypassed the modern boxes and searched through the old trunks containing her belongings from before the car accident that had paralyzed her ten years ago. Deep inside a velvet-lined box, she found a hidden compartment in her teenage diary. Inside was a faded photograph.

Sophia’s breath hitched. In the photo, a younger, clean-shaven version of the beggar was laughing, his arm wrapped tightly around a radiant, teenage Sophia. On the back, written in her own handwriting, were the words: "Lucas and Sophia, forever. No matter what Julian or my father try to do to keep us apart."

As she stared at the photo, the mental fog that had clouded her mind for a decade suddenly broke. Memories flooded back like a bursting dam.
