A Dark Secret Exposed

Before Lily could comprehend his words, Julian shoved his way through the crowd, his face twisted in pure fury. He grabbed the young man by his collar, slamming him toward the marble floor.

"Get your hands off her!" Julian roared. "Security! Throw this lunatic out! He is a dangerous stalker!"

Three burly security guards grabbed the young man, pinning his arms behind his back. But the stranger didn't look at Julian; he kept his eyes locked onto Lily, struggling fiercely against their grip.

"Lily, listen to me!" he yelled, his voice echoing under the high ceiling. "My name is Mason! My mother was the head trauma nurse the night of your crash!"

Julian’s face instantly drained of all color, turning a sickly, ghostly white.

"Shut him up!" Julian shrieked. "Drag him out of here! Call the police!"
"Clara didn't die from the impact, Lily!" Mason screamed, fighting the guard who tried to cover his mouth. "She survived long enough to speak to my mother! She knew about the brakes! She knew Julian sabotaged your car!"

A collective, horrified gasp rippled through the high-society crowd. Lily felt the ground shift beneath her feet. She was standing, but her world was crumbling.

"Stop!" Lily commanded, her voice ringing with a fierce authority.

The guards froze, looking between Lily and Julian. Lily turned to her fiancé, whose forehead was beaded with sweat.

"Julian," she whispered, "What is he talking about?"

Julian tried to laugh, but his voice shook uncontrollably.

"Darling, he's insane. He’s trying to extort us," Julian stammered.

Mason shook his head, pointing to the silver pendant around his neck.

"The pendant, Lily! Press the secret latch on the back of the crest. My mother hid the dashcam microchip inside it before she passed away last week. Clara gave it to her to keep it safe from him!"

Julian’s eyes darted to the pendant, and a look of pure, murderous desperation crossed his face. Suddenly, Julian reached into his tuxedo jacket, pulling out a small, black pistol. The crowd screamed, scattering in panic, as Julian grabbed Lily, wrapping his arm around her neck and pointing the gun at her head.

"Nobody move!" Julian snarled, his mask completely slipping. "Or I'll finish what I started five years ago!"
