Previously: When wealthy Vivian notices her private nurse wearing a rare emerald necklace, she demands answers. What she discovers in her own jewelry box changes both of their lives forever.

A Dark Family Secret Unveiled

Vivian collapsed onto a nearby velvet chair, the blue box slipping from her fingers. She looked at Sarah, really looked at her, seeing the familiar shape of her own late husband’s jawline and the striking green eyes they shared. Through her tears, Vivian began to unravel a twenty-three-year-old tragedy that had broken her family apart.

"Twenty-three years ago, I gave birth to twin girls,"
Vivian explained, her voice trembling.
"But the hospital told us there were complications. They said my second baby, Clara, didn't survive the birth. My husband and I were devastated. I had bought two identical emerald necklaces, intending to give one to each of my daughters on their eighteenth birthday. When Clara died, I kept her necklace locked away, while my surviving daughter, Eleanor, wore hers."

Sarah listened, her face pale.

"But... my name is Sarah. And the woman who raised me was named Margaret Vance. She was a nurse at the county hospital."

The name hit Vivian like a physical blow. Margaret Vance had been her primary nurse during her difficult delivery. She was also the sister of Vivian's late husband’s estranged business partner, a man who had sworn ruin upon their family. "Margaret Vance was there the night you were born," Vivian gasped, the pieces of the puzzle falling into a horrifying place.

"She told us you had passed away. She stole you, Sarah. She took my baby to exact a sick revenge, raising you in secret while we mourned a daughter who was never truly gone."

Sarah shook her head in denial, tears streaming down her face.

"No, she loved me! She couldn't have... she was my mother!"
But deep down, Sarah remembered Margaret’s constant paranoia, the frequent moves, and the way she always avoided any talk of Sarah’s infancy. Vivian stood up and reached out to Sarah, but Sarah stepped back, overwhelmed by the sudden shattering of her entire reality. To find the truth, they needed proof.
