Before Charlotte could reach William, a greasy-looking landlord named Marcus stormed out of the adjacent building, waving a stack of legal papers. He sneered down at the weeping old man, kicking the rusted wheel of the ice cream cart. Marcus demanded immediate payment of twenty thousand dollars in back rent, threatening to throw William’s meager belongings into the gutter within the hour. William pleaded for mercy, explaining that his medical bills had wiped out his savings, but Marcus remained heartless.

Charlotte stepped forward, her heels clicking sharply against the cobblestones. Her presence was commanding, radiating power and wealth. She stood directly between Marcus and the trembling old man.

"How dare you treat a human being this way?" Charlotte demanded, her eyes flashing with anger. "Name your price for this entire property. I am buying it today."

Marcus laughed mockingly, but his amusement vanished when Charlotte drafted a certified personal check for the full value of the building. Dumbfounded and humiliated, the landlord snatched the check and fled the scene. Charlotte then turned and knelt before William, offering her hand. But before William could process what was happening, a police cruiser screeched to a halt at the curb. A wealthy, arrogant developer named Richard stepped out of the vehicle, pointing an accusing finger at William.

"That old thief stole my late wife's vintage gold pocket watch!" Richard shouted to the officers. "I saw him selling jewelry near his cart. Arrest him!"

William gasped, vehemently denying the accusation, explaining that the watch was a cheap replica his father had given him. The police officers moved in to handcuff the terrified elderly man, ignoring his pleas. Charlotte stood up, shielding William once again, refusing to let them take the man who had once saved her life.
