Previously: At six years old, I was tossed aside by a cruel headmistress for my leg brace. But when a wealthy couple knelt beside me, my life changed forever — and the truth was more shocking than anyone imagined.

The Truth Behind the Birthmark

The DNA test came back a week later, and the results were not what anyone expected. I was not Dominic and Camille's biological daughter. My parents were a distant branch of the Mercer family—a prince and princess who had died in a car crash when I was a baby. They had left me in the care of a trusted advisor, who had been paid by a jealous cousin to hide me away.

Dominic read the report aloud, his voice breaking. "Sophie is the rightful heir to the Mercer fortune. Her parents' will named her as the sole beneficiary."

Camille wept, holding me tightly. "You're a princess, Sophie. A real princess."

I didn't understand what that meant, but I felt the weight of it in the way the staff bowed their heads when I walked by. I was no longer the girl in the leg brace, shoved aside by a cruel headmistress. I was a lost heiress, found at last.

But there was one more twist. The cousin who had paid Mrs. Finch—he was still out there, and he wasn't about to let me take what he believed was his. A week after the test, a man in a dark suit appeared at the gates, demanding to see me.

"I'm here to claim what's rightfully mine," he said, his eyes cold.

The Final Stand

Dominic stepped in front of me, his jaw set. "You have no claim. Sophie is the heir."

The man laughed, pulling out a folder. "I have a marriage certificate. Sophie's mother was married to my brother before she died. That makes me her legal guardian."

Camille went pale, and I felt my stomach drop. Could this stranger really take me away? I clutched my wrist, my birthmark burning under his gaze.

But Dominic was calm. He took the folder, flipped through it, and then smiled—a cold, triumphant smile. "This certificate is fake. I had it checked the moment I saw it. And I have proof that you forged it."

He pulled out a phone, showing a video of the man meeting with Mrs. Finch, exchanging money. "You're going to jail, cousin."

The man's face twisted with rage, but the guards were already on him. As he was dragged away, I felt a weight lift from my shoulders.

That night, Dominic and Camille tucked me into a bed with silk sheets and a canopy of stars. Camille kissed my forehead, her eyes soft. "You are safe now, Sophie. You are home."

"I know," I whispered, holding her hand. "You are my real mommy now."

And in that moment, the little girl who had been rejected by everyone finally knew her worth. Not because of a birthmark or a fortune, but because she was loved.

The legacy of the Mercer family was not just in gold or titles—it was in the courage to fight for what mattered. And I, Sophie Mercer, would carry that legacy for the rest of my life.
