Before Lily could process the stranger's words, her father, Arthur Carlton, pushed through the crowd. His face was a mask of sheer fury.

"Get away from my daughter!"

Arthur roared, signaling the security guards. Two burly men grabbed the young man, pinning his arms behind his back. The young man, Mason, did not struggle. He kept his eyes locked on Lily, his expression filled with a mixture of pity and anger.

Lily stood there, her legs shaking but holding her weight.

"Dad, stop!"

she cried out.

"He did something... I can walk! Who is he?"

Arthur ignored her, his voice tight and controlled. "He is a trespasser and a fraud, Lily. Guards, throw him out and call the police."

But Mason shouted over the din of the crowd.

"Tell her the truth, Arthur! Tell her whose heart is beating inside her chest! Tell her about Eleanor!"

At the mention of the name Eleanor, Arthur went pale. The confidence drained from his face, replaced by a sudden, desperate panic. Lily noticed the shift instantly. She remembered the name Eleanor from old letters she had found in her father's study—letters he had burned when she questioned him about them.

"What is he talking about, Dad?"

Lily demanded, taking her first tentative steps forward. The crowd whispered, sensing a massive scandal unfolding.

"Who is Eleanor?"

Mason looked at Lily, his voice softening.

"Eleanor was my mother. And she was your biological mother, too. Arthur forced her away twenty years ago to marry into a wealthier family. But when she heard about your accident, and realized she was dying of a terminal illness, she made sure her heart would go to you. She wanted you to live, Lily. But your father hid the truth so you would never find out about us."

The revelation hit Lily like a physical blow. Her entire life had been a lie constructed by the man she trusted most.
