A Cry for Help at Gate 14

The harsh, fluorescent lights of the airport terminal hummed overhead, casting a sterile glow over the bustling crowd. But for Jessica, the bright terminal felt like a cage. She kept her head low, the hood of her black zip-up sweatshirt pulled tightly over her face to hide the deep, purplish bruise swelling around her left eye and cheekbone. Every step she took felt heavy, weighted down by a paralyzing fear that had consumed her life for the past three years.

Behind her was Charles, her husband, dressed impeccably in a navy blazer. To any outsider, he looked like a wealthy, doting husband taking his wife on a luxury vacation. But his grip on her elbow was like a steel vise. When Jessica stumbled, Charles didn't help her up. Instead, he shoved her roughly forward, sending her crashing to the tiled floor. Her phone slipped from her hand, clattering against the ground. The screen illuminated, displaying a first-class boarding pass to a remote private estate—a place where Jessica knew she would be completely isolated from the world.

"Get up," Charles hissed, his voice low and dripping with venom. "You are not making a scene here. Pick up your phone and move."

Tears blurred Jessica's vision as she scrambled to retrieve the device. Before she could even stand, Charles aggressively grabbed her arm, dragging her toward the boarding kiosk. The gate agent was distracted, typing away on a computer. Charles barked at Jessica, pushing her toward the scanner.

"Scan it!" he commanded, his eyes flashing with a dangerous warning.

Jessica's hand shook violently. She knew that once she boarded that plane, there would be no escape. She looked up, her tear-streaked, battered face a silent plea for help. As Charles pushed her into the jet bridge, a tall figure suddenly stepped out of the aircraft door. It was Captain David. Standing tall in his pilot's uniform, his gaze locked onto Jessica's bruised face, and then onto Charles's aggressive grip. He stepped forward, completely blocking their path.

He stepped forward, completely blocking their path.
