A Tearful Departure

The bright, fluorescent lights of Terminal 3 hummed with the sterile energy of late-night travel, but for Sarah, the airport felt like a gilded cage. Dressed in an oversized navy fleece hoodie, she tried to pull the hood low to cover the dark, purple bruising that painted her left cheek and eye. Every step was a battle against her own trembling knees. Behind her, Thomas walked with an aggressive, predatory stride, his charcoal wool overcoat billowing as he pushed her forward.

Suddenly, Thomas lost his patience. With a harsh grunt, he shoved Sarah violently toward the boarding gate. The force of the blow knocked her off balance, and her phone slipped from her fingers, clattering loudly onto the polished linoleum floor. She gasped, tears spilling over her swollen cheek as she looked down. The screen glowed brightly, displaying a digital first-class boarding pass to a remote international destination—a one-way ticket to a life where nobody would ever hear her voice again.

Before she could reach for the phone, Thomas snatched her arm in a vice-like grip. His fingers dug deep into her flesh, dragging her toward the automated gate kiosk.

"Scan it!" he barked, his voice a low, threatening hiss that sent shivers down her spine. "We are getting on this plane, Sarah. Don't make a scene."

Sarah sobbed, her tear-streaked face a portrait of sheer terror and exhaustion. She scanned the pass, the machine emitting a cheerful green beep that felt like a death knell. Thomas shoved her down the narrow boarding bridge, eager to disappear into the aircraft. But as they reached the threshold of the plane, a towering figure stepped out of the cockpit door, blocking the entrance. It was Captain Robert. Clad in his crisp pilot uniform, his eyes locked onto Sarah's bruised face, and his expression hardened into stone.
