A Miner's Pride, A Broker's Scorn

The air in the repurposed industrial dockside tavern hung heavy with the scent of salt spray, engine exhaust, and the damp smell of sawdust. Rain hammered against the cracked skylights, casting shifting reflections across the rough timber walls. Heavy, rusted ship chains dangled from blackened beams, remnants of a forgotten maritime past. This was the unlikely venue for a high-stakes supercar contract signing, a place where the old world met the new in a dramatic clash of light and shadow. Amber tungsten bulbs cast a moody glow, broken by the harsh cobalt light filtering in from the dockside.

Ruth, a man whose 54 years were etched onto his face in deep crow's feet and the indelible marks of coal dust embedded in his skin, stood with the unyielding posture of a veteran miner. His frayed denim bib overalls and faded flannel shirt spoke of a life of hard labor, a stark contrast to the opulent surroundings. He was a picture of weary resilience, his presence a testament to decades spent toiling in the earth’s depths.

Across from him stood Brock Henderson, a 29-year-old supercar dealership broker. His sharp pompadour and sneering thin lips exuded an almost palpable arrogance. Clad in an immaculate charcoal three-piece suit, his polished gold cufflinks gleamed under the dim light. He was the embodiment of hostile, elitist disdain, a predator in a bespoke suit.

The tension snapped as Brock aggressively stepped forward, shoving Ruth’s chest with brutal force. The miner stumbled backward, his back hitting a rough timber pillar with a dull thud. Sawdust drifted through the amber light as Brock sneered down at him. “Get your filthy coal-dust hands out of my luxury delivery room, pit rat—you couldn't afford a single wheel bolt on this supercar!” he spat, his voice laced with venom.

Ruth remained silent, his jaw clenching, his Adam’s apple bobbing as he swallowed hard. His stoic grey eyes held Brock’s gaze, unwavering, a silent challenge in the face of the broker’s blatant contempt.
