Previously: When Officer Charles unleashed his elite K-9 units on Emily in the rain-drenched drill yard, he expected an arrest. Instead, the deadly beasts became her ultimate protectors.

The Standoff Under the Rain

The triumph of the moment was short-lived. As Emily took a step toward the heavy steel exit gates of the drill yard, the sharp click of a safety being switched off echoed through the rain. Officer Walker had drawn his service weapon, pointing it directly at Emily’s chest. His hand shook, but his eyes were filled with desperate malice.

"You think you can walk out of here with those files?" Walker snarled, his voice cracking. "Those dogs might protect you, but they can't stop a bullet. Tell us where the drive is, Emily, or this ends right here."

The K-9s immediately sensed the lethal threat. Zeus let out a deep, chest-vibrating growl, his muscles tensing for a lethal leap. Emily placed a calming hand on the dog's wet fur, silently signaling him to hold. She knew that if Zeus lunged, Walker would shoot him without hesitation. She couldn't let these innocent animals die for her family's struggle.

"You shoot me, Walker, and you'll never find the drive," Emily said, her voice remarkably steady despite the adrenaline surging through her veins. "My brother didn't just hide the files. He set up an automated system. If I don't check in by midnight, the entire database of your illegal drug-money transactions goes straight to the federal prosecutor."

Charles stepped up beside Walker, his face twisted in panic. "She's bluffing, Walker! Don't let her get in your head. She has nothing!" But Walker hesitated, his finger trembling on the trigger. The storm seemed to intensify, the wind whipping around them as the seconds ticked away. It was a classic standoff: a corrupt officer with a gun, a brave trainer protected by four loyal beasts, and a secret that could destroy the entire precinct.
