Previously: A wealthy man in a wheelchair offers a poor boy a million dollars to heal him. In seconds, a miracle happens—but the boy's arrival uncovers a dark family conspiracy.

The Cost of a Miracle

For the first time in three years, Richard was standing on his own two feet. The paralysis that had bound him to a wheelchair was gone, replaced by a vibrant, tingling energy. The entire restaurant fell into a stunned silence. Richard took a tentative step forward, then another. It was a miracle. He looked down at the tattered boy, who was now trembling, his face pale and exhausted.

"How... how did you do this?" Richard whispered, tears welling in his eyes.

Before the boy could answer, a harsh voice cut through the crowd. "Get away from him, you little thief!"

Richard’s younger brother, Julian, rushed forward, flanked by two burly security guards. Julian’s face was a mask of sheer panic, not joy. He didn't look happy that his brother was walking; he looked terrified.

"Julian, look!" Richard cried out. "I can walk! This boy, he healed me!"
"Don't touch that street rat, Richard!" Julian yelled, grabbing the boy by his collar. "He’s a fraud. He probably drugged you with some temporary stimulant to steal your wallet. Guards, throw him out and call the police!"

"No, wait!" Richard demanded, but Julian was desperate to get the boy away.

As the guards grabbed the child, a small vial slipped from the boy's pocket, rolling across the floor. Richard picked it up. He recognized the label instantly—it was from the private laboratory of Dr. Henderson, Richard's former personal physician who had mysteriously disappeared a year ago.

The boy struggled against the guards, crying out,

"My father didn't run away! Julian locked him up because he found out about the medicine! The medicine that was making you sick, Richard!"

Richard froze. The pieces of a horrifying puzzle began to fall into place. For three years, Julian had been managing Richard's daily medication.
