Previously: When nineteen-year-old Lane confronts wealthy designer Veronica with a childhood photo, he expects answers about why she abandoned him—but her shocking reaction reveals a devastating truth.

A Mother's True Choice

Instead of answering Richard, Veronica ordered her driver to speed toward the family estate. The ride was silent, filled with a heavy, unspoken tension as mother and son processed nearly two decades of stolen time. When the sedan finally pulled up to the massive iron gates of the Vance estate, they were greeted by flashing red and blue lights. Richard stood there alongside three police officers, a smug, triumphant smile playing on his lips.

"Step away from my wife, boy," Richard ordered as Lane got out of the car. "I have the police here to arrest you for harassment and assault."

But before the officers could move, Veronica stepped between them, her cream-colored coat stained with the mud from Lane's clothes. She looked at her husband with a cold fury that made him flinch.

"If you touch him, Richard, I will dismantle this entire empire piece by piece," she warned, her voice shaking with authority. "I know what you and my father did nineteen years ago. Clara left a confession."

It was a bluff, but it worked. Richard's smug expression crumbled. Under the intense glare of his wife and the suspicious eyes of the officers, he began to stammer. He admitted that he had feared a child from Veronica's past would threaten his control over her inheritance. He had paid Clara to take the baby and lie, believing Lane would disappear forever into the system.

Veronica turned her back on her husband and her wealth without a single shred of regret. She wrapped her arms around Lane, holding him tight for the first time in nineteen years. The cold rain still fell, but for the first time in his life, Lane felt warm. He had lost a lifetime of luxury, but he had finally found his mother—and no amount of money could ever replace the truth of a mother's fierce, unbreakable love.
