Pregnant Waitress Humiliated by Hotel Boss — Then Her Husband Walks In
Previously: When a corrupt hotel director forces a heavily pregnant waitress to kneel and wipe a spill, her 5-year-old daughter steps in. But the real shock comes when her husband — a billionaire — arrives.
The Secret in the Deed
Lorenzo led Hannah and Ella to a private suite on the top floor, a place she had never seen before. It was decorated in soft creams and gold, with a view of the city that seemed to stretch forever. Ella fell asleep on a velvet chaise, her golden curls spread across the pillow.
Hannah sat on the edge of a chair, her hands wrapped around a cup of tea that she hadn't touched. Her mind was racing. The deed. The fire. Alistair's scream.

“Lorenzo,” she said, her voice shaking. “What did he mean? What fire?”
He stood by the window, his back to her, his shoulders tense. When he finally turned, his face was pale, and his eyes held a pain she had never seen before.
“I wasn't always a banker,” he began. “When I was nineteen, I worked at a hotel just like this one. A small place on the outskirts of the city. Your parents ran it.”
Hannah's breath caught. “You knew my parents?”
“I knew them,” Lorenzo said. “They were good people. They took me in when I had nothing. I was a dishwasher, and they treated me like family.”
He paused, swallowing hard. “There was a fire. I was there that night. I saw a man in a dark coat leaving through the back door. I tried to get to your parents' room, but the smoke…”
His voice broke. “I couldn't save them. I tried. But I was too late.”
Hannah felt tears streaming down her face. “Why didn't you ever tell me?”
“Because I was ashamed,” he whispered. “I didn't want you to know that I failed them. But I never stopped trying to find the man who did it. I became a banker because I needed money to buy this hotel, to tear it apart until I found the truth.”
He crossed the room and knelt in front of her, taking her hands. “I didn't know you were the owner until a year ago, when I finally tracked down the deed. Your parents left it in a safety deposit box. They wanted you to have it, but the lawyers couldn't find you until you started working here.”
Hannah shook her head, trying to process it all. “So the hotel is mine? All this time?”
“Yes,” Lorenzo said. “And Alistair knew. He was the man in the dark coat. He started the fire. He's been stealing from this hotel for years, and he thought he could get away with it by keeping you as a powerless waitress.”
Hannah's hands trembled. “But why? Why would he hurt my parents?”
“Because they found out he was embezzling,” Lorenzo said. “He wanted the hotel for himself, and he was willing to kill for it.”
There was a knock at the door. The COO entered, his expression grim. “Mr. Volkov,” he said, “the police are here. They've taken Alistair into custody. But he's demanding to speak with Mrs. Volkov. He says he has evidence that could implicate her in the fire.”
Lorenzo's jaw tightened. “He's lying.”
“Maybe,” the COO said. “But the lawyers think it's better if she hears what he has to say.”
Hannah stood up, her legs shaky. “I'll go.”
“No,” Lorenzo said. “I won't let him near you.”
“Lorenzo,” she said, placing a hand on his cheek, “I need to know the truth. I've been afraid my whole life, and I'm done with that.”
She followed the COO to a small interrogation room. Alistair sat at a table, his hands cuffed, a smug smile on his face.
“Ah, the little waitress,” he said. “Or should I say, the little owner? You must be so proud of yourself.”
“What do you want?” Hannah said, her voice cold.
“I want a deal,” Alistair said. “I'll tell you who really started that fire, if you drop the charges.”
Hannah's heart skipped. “You started it. Lorenzo saw you.”
Alistair laughed. “Lorenzo? The man who 'rescued' you? He's been lying to you, sweetheart. He didn't just witness the fire. He started it.”
Hannah felt the room spin. “You're lying.”
“Am I?” Alistair leaned forward. “Ask him about the insurance policy. Ask him why he bought this hotel with his own money and then put your name on the deed. Ask him why he's been so keen on keeping you close.”
Hannah stumbled back, her mind reeling. She turned and ran out of the room, past the officers, past the COO, back to the suite.
Lorenzo was standing where she left him, staring out the window. He didn't turn when she entered.
“Is it true?” she demanded.
He was silent for a long moment. Then, slowly, he turned. “Hannah, there's something I need to tell you.”
“Is it true?” she repeated, her voice rising.
Lorenzo's eyes were filled with tears. “I was young and desperate. I needed money to pay for my mother's surgery. Your father refused to give me a loan, so I took out an insurance policy on the hotel. I thought if the building burned, the insurance would cover it, and I could save my mother.”
Hannah felt her world shatter. “You killed them.”
“No!” Lorenzo said, stepping toward her. “I set the fire, but I didn't know they were inside! I thought the hotel was empty! I tried to save them, Hannah. I swear it!”
She backed away, her hand on her belly. “Get away from me. Don't touch me.”
“Please, Hannah,” he pleaded. “I've spent every day since trying to make it right. I bought this hotel to protect you. I gave you the deed to give you power. I love you, and I love Ella, and this baby.”
“You don't get to say that,” she said, her voice breaking. “You took my parents from me. You took everything.”
She turned and ran, leaving him standing alone in the golden suite, the weight of his confession crushing him.
