The Restroom Trap

The air in the Oakridge High girls' restroom was thick with the scent of cheap lavender soap and underlying dread. Hannah, the school’s undisputed queen bee, stood with a cruel smirk plastered across her face. Her dirty-blonde hair caught the harsh fluorescent light as she uncapped a tube of blood-red lipstick. Held tightly against the cold, beige-tiled wall by two of Hannah’s loyal sycophants was Rachel. Rachel, usually quiet and unassuming in her oversized school uniform, kept her eyes downcast, her breath shallow.

Before Hannah could even scream, Rachel swept her legs, sending the bully crashing down beside them.

The restroom fell into a stunned silence, broken only by the whimpers of the defeated bullies. Rachel stood defiantly over them, her breathing steady, her posture perfectly poised. Slowly, she knelt beside a dazed and trembling Hannah. Rachel reached down, snatched the fallen red lipstick, and drew a bold, crimson cross directly on Hannah's forehead. Looking down at her with cold, unwavering eyes, Rachel whispered,

"You wrote the wrong name."

Leaving the three popular girls groveling on the floor, Rachel turned on her heel and walked out, leaving behind a mystery that would soon shatter the entire school's social hierarchy.
