The Rain Ruined My Wedding Dress But Saved Me From A Lifetime of Lies
Previously: When Chloe found her wedding dress thrown into the muddy rain, she thought her mother-in-law had lost her mind. But the framed photo in the older woman's hands held a truth that changed everything.
The Secret in the Frame
Evelyn took a slow, deliberate step forward, her boots squelching in the mud. She turned the framed picture around, forcing Chloe to look at the image sealed behind the glass. Through the cascading raindrops, Chloe squinted at the photograph. It was a wedding picture, but it wasn't her. It was a beautiful young brunette wearing the exact same custom-designed vintage bridal gown that now lay ruined in the dirt.
"This is Clara," Evelyn said, her voice shaking but clear over the storm. "Julian’s first wife. The one he told you died in a tragic car accident before you met."
Chloe shook her head, confusion turning into a cold dread. "I know about Clara, Evelyn. Julian was devastated by her loss. What does this have to do with ruining my dress?"
Evelyn let out a bitter, hollow laugh. "He told you she died. That is the lie he feeds to every young woman with a wealthy inheritance. Clara didn't die in an accident, Chloe. Clara is alive, living in a specialized care facility, completely bankrupt and broken because of what my son did to her."
Chloe gasped, her eyes darting to the porch. Julian had taken a step back, his hand gripping the wooden railing. His face was devoid of color. Evelyn continued, tears mixing with the rain on her cheeks. She explained that Julian was a pathological predator who targeted wealthy, lonely women. He would marry them, isolate them, legally drain their bank accounts, and then drive them to psychological ruin. The dress Chloe was wearing wasn't a new design—it was Clara's actual dress, kept in storage, which Julian had gifted to Chloe to save money and feed his sick ego.
"I couldn't watch him do it again," Evelyn sobbed, her maternal loyalty finally snapping. "I brought you here today to show you. I ruined the dress because it is cursed, Chloe. And if you marry him, he will destroy you just like he destroyed her."
”And if you marry him, he will destroy you just like he destroyed her."
