The silence in the foyer was suffocating. Elizabeth’s hand froze mid-air, her perfect smile faltering for a fraction of a second before she recovered her composure.

"Oh, sweetheart, it's not what it looks like,"

she stammered, letting out a nervous laugh.

"Megan wanted to help out around the house. She insisted on earning her keep while she stays with us. I tried to stop her, but she was so adamant about being useful!"

Megan shook her head violently, her tears splashing onto the wet marble.

"That's a lie!"

she screamed, finding her voice.

"She took my phone, Dad! She locked me in my room and told me that if I didn't clean the entire house before you got back, she would make sure you cut off my college tuition! She tore up my acceptance letter!"

Robert’s breath hitched. He looked between his trembling daughter and his wife, whose face was rapidly losing its color.

"Is this true, Elizabeth?"

Robert asked, his voice shaking with a mixture of disbelief and growing rage.

Elizabeth scoffed, trying to play the victim.

"Robert, please! Are you really going to believe a dramatic teenager over your own wife? She’s been resentful of me since day one. She’s making this up to tear us apart!"

But Robert was no fool. He walked past Elizabeth, kneeling down on the wet floor to pull Megan into a tight embrace. As he held his sobbing daughter, his eyes caught the security camera nestled in the corner of the high ceiling. Elizabeth had forgotten that Robert had installed a state-of-the-art security system before their wedding, one that recorded both video and high-quality audio. He pulled out his phone, his thumb tapping the screen to access the live feed archive. Elizabeth watched in mounting horror as she realized her elaborate lie was about to be completely dismantled.
