Mason knelt beside Evelyn, cradling her fragile frame. Her floral blouse was torn, and her hands trembled violently. "I've got you, Nana. You're safe now," Mason whispered, his voice shaking with a mix of relief and lingering rage. He looked over at the shattered staircase. Cassandra was groaning, struggling to stand amidst the splintered oak and plaster dust.

As she pulled herself up, her crimson dress covered in white dust, there was no remorse in her eyes. Instead, her face twisted into a sneer. "You stupid boy," she spat, wiping a trickle of blood from her lip. "You think you're a hero? You just ruined everything."

Mason stood up, shielding his grandmother. "Why would you do this? She loved you! We loved you!" he demanded, his voice echoing in the cavernous foyer. Cassandra laughed bitterly.

She revealed that over the past six months, she had been systematically isolating Evelyn, forcing her to sign over the deed to the estate. Evelyn had finally refused today, prompting Cassandra's violent outburst. But the betrayal ran deeper.
