Previously: Six years after fleeing her wealthy fiancé, Chloe is living off the grid when he suddenly tracks her down—only to discover the secret she kept from him.

A Confrontation Years in the Making

Chloe placed a gentle hand on Luke’s shoulder, her voice trembling as she tried to remain calm for her child.

"Luke, sweetie, go back inside and finish your drawing. Mommy needs to speak to this gentleman."
Luke looked confused but nodded, running back into the safety of the wooden cabin.

Once the door clicked shut, Chloe turned back to Aaron, her defensive walls rising.

"You shouldn't have come here, Aaron. You need to leave."

"Leave?"
Aaron scoffed, taking a step closer, his expensive leather shoes sinking into the dirt.
"Chloe, you disappeared without a trace six years ago. You left me broken, wondering what I did wrong. And now I find you living in the middle of nowhere, raising a boy who looks exactly like me. I deserve the truth!"

The pain in his voice was palpable, but Chloe’s fear quickly morphed into anger.

"You want the truth? Your mother threatened to destroy my life, Aaron! She framed me for grand larceny. She told me she would ensure I gave birth to my baby behind bars if I didn't disappear. I did what I had to do to protect our child!"

Aaron recoiled as if struck, his face turning pale. The anger in his eyes softened into a profound, aching sorrow.

"My mother..."
he murmured, running a hand through his hair.
"She passed away last year, Chloe. On her deathbed, she confessed to what she did to you. That's why I've been searching for you. I wanted to make things right."

For a moment, a wave of relief washed over Chloe. But the relief was short-lived. Aaron’s expression hardened again as he looked toward the cabin door.

"But you knew me, Chloe,"
Aaron said, his voice cracking with emotion.
"You knew I loved you. Even if you couldn't trust my mother, how could you keep my son from me? You let me miss his first steps. You let me miss his entire life. How could you do that to him? How could you do that to me?"

How could you do that to him? How could you do that to me?"
