Previously: A raging fire engulfs a luxury villa while a ruthless tycoon blocks emergency services. But when the fire chief defies him, a shocking truth about his own family surfaces, forcing a brutal confrontation with his own arrogance.

The Reckoning

The roar of the fire was deafening, punctuated by the violent crack of thunder and the frantic, flatlining alarms of medical monitors. Thomas, a man possessed, kicked open the nursery door, his breath hitching. He lunged towards a glass incubator, the sight within making his heart pound against his ribs. "I've got her vitals—she's still fighting, move out!" he yelled, his voice raspy with urgency. He was referring to Armand Dubois's infant daughter, a child Armand had barely acknowledged in his self-absorbed existence.

Outside, Armand stood transfixed, the cold rain plastering his hair to his temples, a sudden dread chilling him to the bone. He peered through the shattered window, a stark contrast to the arrogant man who had minutes before threatened an entire fire station. He saw Thomas emerge from the flames, not with the calm efficiency he’d expected, but with a desperate, life-saving urgency. A massive fireball erupted from the villa's grand entrance, and Thomas burst through, cradling a small, swaddled form.

He charged directly at Armand, soot and rain streaming down his scarred face. He thrust the bundle into Armand's trembling arms. It was his daughter, alive, a neonatal oxygen monitor still glowing a defiant neon-green on her tiny foot. "You blocked our trucks for a million-dollar driveway—while your own daughter choked to death in the nursery!" Thomas's voice was a searing accusation, shaking with righteous disgust. Armand's expensive umbrella tumbled from his grasp, landing with a soft splash in a muddy puddle. His jaw dropped, his eyes wide with a paralyzed shock that stole his breath. The cold, hard reality of his actions, his monumental arrogance, crashed down upon him with the force of the thunder above. Tears, hot and unexpected, welled along his lower eyelids, blurring the image of the child he had almost condemned.
