The Rough Biker Returned To Save The Diner Owned By A Kind Waitress
The sun beat down on the cracked asphalt of Route 66, casting a warm, golden glow through the dusty windows of the Highway Star Diner. Inside, the hum of an old jukebox competed with the sizzle of the grill. Alice, a young woman with tired eyes wearing a faded striped apron, carried a heavy ceramic plate to the far booth. On it sat a perfectly seared steak and two sunny-side-up eggs. She set it down in front of Duke, a rugged older man whose weathered face was framed by a bushy grey beard. He wore a grease-stained denim vest adorned with faded motorcycle club patches.
An Unexpected Act of Kindness
"Eat while it's hot, it's on the house,"
Alice said, offering a warm, genuine smile despite the exhaustion weighing on her shoulders. Duke looked up, his rough features softening slightly, though his eyes remained sharp. He leaned back in the vinyl booth.
"You sure you're not scared of a biker like me?"
he asked, a rumble of amusement in his deep voice. Alice didn't hesitate. She wiped her hands on her apron and looked him dead in the eye.
"A hungry man isn't the one I'm afraid of,"
she replied softly. Duke stared at the plate, his expression turning thoughtful. He picked up his fork, murmuring almost to himself,
"I never forget a kindness."
An hour later, the roar of heavy engines shattered the quiet afternoon. Alice stepped out onto the dusty parking lot, her heart hammering. Duke was there, but he wasn't alone. Behind him, a dozen leather-clad bikers sat astride their gleaming machines. Duke dismounted, walked straight up to Alice, and pulled a thick, rubber-banded stack of hundred-dollar bills from his vest pocket. He pressed it into her trembling hands.
"We'll buy every plate you've got left, and we'll pay off every dollar this diner owes,"
Duke said, his voice steady and commanding. Alice’s eyes went wide, tears welling as she whispered,
"You came back?"
