Previously: Prince Sebastian is forced into an arranged marriage with Princess Evelyn, but when her father presents her with her head locked in a barrel, a terrifying secret is unleashed.

A Crown Restored

King Charles stepped into the room, his eyes scanning the bloody golden threads on the table. "You have meddled in affairs that do not concern you, boy," he growled, raising his hand to signal his knights. "Kill the Prince. Bring my daughter back to her chambers. We will find her a more... obedient husband."

I drew my sword, stepping in front of Evelyn, ready to fight to my last breath. But Evelyn, despite her weakness, stood tall beside me. She pulled a small parchment from her sleeve—a document she had managed to hide in the lining of her heavy gown. It bore the royal seal of the late Queen, detailing the poison Charles had used and the names of the guards who had helped him.

"You are too late, Charles," I said, keeping my blade level. "My father is the High Commander of the Realm. Before we left the cathedral, I slipped a message to his trusted courier. The High Council already has the proof of your treason. Your reign of terror ends today."

Charles laughed, a dry, mocking sound, and ordered his knights to charge. But as the knights stepped forward, the heavy trumpets of the High Council's guard echoed through the courtyard outside. The door burst open again, and my father entered, flanked by fifty royal archers. The knights, realizing the tide had turned and seeing the damning evidence in Evelyn’s hand, lowered their weapons and refused to defend the usurper.

King Charles was stripped of his crown and dragged away in chains, screaming curses into the cold night. The kingdom was finally freed from his tyrannical grip. Evelyn was crowned the rightful Queen, her voice fully healed as she addressed her cheering people. We rebuilt the kingdom not on fear and secrets, but on trust and devotion. True strength is not found in silencing others, but in having the courage to speak the truth, no matter the cost.
