Richard’s words hung in the air, heavy with malice. Lily whimpered slightly, burying her face into Arthur’s sleeve, but the old man remained perfectly still. He slowly turned his gaze toward the elegant oil painting on the wall. The portrait depicted a handsome, sharp-featured young man in a tailored tuxedo, holding a jeweler’s loupe with an air of brilliant confidence. It was a painting commissioned nearly forty years ago, representing the birth of a multi-million-dollar jewelry empire.

Arthur looked at the painting, then back at Richard. A faint, knowing smile played on his lips, though his eyes remained serious.

But I believe the lighting in this corner does it a disservice. And if I recall correctly, the artist made the chin just a bit too sharp.
