A Rugged Stranger Crashes a High-Society Gala to Make a Paralyzed Girl Walk
An Uninvited Guest
The crystal chandeliers of the Grand Plaza ballroom cast a dazzling glow over the city's elite. It was Charles Vance’s annual charity gala, a glittering display of wealth and influence. At the center of the room sat his daughter, Grace, a beautiful strawberry-blonde young woman in a velvet-draped wheelchair. She wore a forced smile, weary of being treated as her father's ultimate pity prop. Suddenly, the heavy oak doors swung open, cutting the classical music short.
In strode Luke. He was a rugged man, his face weathered and his light-brown hair unkempt, wearing a stained canvas coat that stood out like a scar against the sea of black tuxedos. The security guards hesitated, confused by his sheer confidence. Luke marched straight past the ice sculptures, his eyes locked onto Grace.
"Let me dance with her," Luke demanded, his voice ringing through the silent hall.
Charles stepped forward, his face flushed with aristocratic rage. He adjusted his silk bowtie and sneered at the intruder.
"Do you even know who she is, filthy beggar?" Charles hissed, gesturing for security.
Luke didn't flinch. He looked past Charles, his gaze softening as it met Grace's wide, startled eyes. There was a flicker of recognition in her expression, a ghost of a memory from a life before her legs stopped working.
"I know she wants to dance, and I will make it happen," Luke asserted calmly.
"Why should I let you get near my daughter?" Charles growled, stepping into Luke's path.
"Because I can make her stand," Luke replied with absolute conviction.
Before the guards could grab him, Luke bypassed Charles and knelt before Grace. The crowd gasped. He gently placed his hand near her collarbone, feeling her rapid pulse. Looking deep into her tear-filled eyes, he commanded,
"In the name of Jesus, come, rise."
