A New Beginning

As Marcus writhed in pain, the bistro's manager finally rushed out, phone in hand, already speaking to the police. Within minutes, sirens wailed outside, and two officers entered to escort a swearing Marcus away in handcuffs. It turned out Marcus was already wanted for outstanding warrants, ensuring he wouldn't be bothering Katherine for a very long time.

With the threat finally gone, the adrenaline faded, leaving Katherine shaking. Michael helped her to a booth, gently cleaning her wounds with a first-aid kit the manager had brought. Katherine looked at him, her eyes filled with immense gratitude but also confusion.

"Thank you," she whispered, her voice cracking. "But why did you risk your life for a stranger?"

Michael offered a warm, reassuring smile. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a set of keys, laying them on the table.

"I'm Michael," he explained softly. "I bought this bistro last week. I was actually coming in tonight to introduce myself to the staff. I had no idea my first act as owner would be protecting my best employee."

Katherine gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. The man who had saved her was her new boss. Michael explained that he had reviewed her files and knew how hard she worked. He assured her that her job was safe, and starting tomorrow, she would be promoted to floor manager with a salary that would finally allow her to live comfortably and securely.

For the first time in years, the heavy weight of fear lifted from Katherine's shoulders. Looking at Michael, she realized that the shattered glass on the floor wasn't the end of her story—it was the moment her life was finally put back together, proving that sometimes, the darkest moments lead us directly to our brightest second chances.
