Previously: When my husband's mistress stormed into our probate salon with a forged crib log, I thought my daughter was lost. But her sealed DNA report told a truth that shattered every lie.

The Second Envelope Revealed a Secret That Turned Our World Upside Down

Three days had passed since Selena's arrest. The chateau felt quieter, but the air was heavy with unresolved questions. Marcus's note burned in my mind.

I found the second envelope hidden in the hollow chess king Maya had been holding. It was sealed with the same red wax, but this time the emblem was different — a serpent entwined with a key.

The Sealed DNA Report That Silenced the Mistress and Saved My Daughter

I opened it in the library, with Judge Locke and Maya by my side. Inside was a birth certificate and a letter that made my blood run cold.

"Maya is not Marcus's biological daughter," the letter read. "But she is yours, and that is enough. The DNA match was real because I paid for it to be real. I paid the lab to fabricate the results."

I felt the floor drop out from under me. Judge Locke's face turned ashen.

"What?" I breathed. "But... the report said 99.99%."

"I forged it," the letter continued, in Marcus's familiar handwriting. "I knew Selena would try to take everything. I knew she would challenge Maya's claim. So I made sure the evidence would hold up. But the truth is, Maya is not my blood. Her father is a man I never met, a man your sister loved before she died."

My sister. The nurse. The one who'd recorded Selena's bribery.

"Your sister was Maya's mother," Marcus wrote. "She gave birth to Maya and died that same night. I adopted her. I raised her as my own. I loved her more than anything. And I would not let Selena destroy her."

Judge Locke looked at me, his eyes searching mine. "You knew?"

I shook my head, tears spilling over. "No. I didn't know any of this. I thought... I thought she was mine."

But even as I said it, I felt a strange relief. Maya was my daughter — in every way that mattered. I had raised her, cherished her, protected her. Blood was just a detail.

"If this gets out," Judge Locke said, "the entire probate case falls apart. Selena's lawyers will use it to overturn the ruling."

"But we can't let that happen," I said. "Maya deserves her inheritance. She deserves her home."

Judge Locke paced the room. "There's only one way to make this permanent. We need to prove that Selena committed fraud — not just with the crib log, but with everything."

That's when Maya spoke up. "Papa," she said, tugging at the judge's robe. "I have something else."

She pulled a small USB drive from the pocket of her sundress. "Nanny Sarah gave it to me. She said it was from Daddy."

I plugged it into the computer. The screen flickered to life, showing a video of Selena — meeting with a lab technician, handing over a thick envelope of cash.

"Make sure the report says what I want," Selena's voice echoed. "The girl is not Marcus's daughter. Understand?"

The technician nodded. "Yes, ma'am."

But then the video cut to another scene — the same technician meeting with Marcus. He handed him a different envelope.

"I did what you asked," the technician said. "I gave her the fake report. But I also ran a real one. The girl is not your biological daughter, Mr. Deschamps. But I'll keep that secret for the right price."

Marcus's face hardened. "I'll pay you double to keep it quiet. And I'll need you to testify about Selena's bribery."

The technician hesitated. "That could be dangerous."

"It's the right thing," Marcus said. "And I'll protect you."

I watched with a racing heart. This was the proof we needed. Selena had committed bribery and fraud. Marcus had covered it up — but only to protect Maya.

Judge Locke's eyes were burning. "This changes everything," he said. "We can use this to have Selena's entire case dismissed. But we need to present it at the appellate hearing tomorrow."

"Tomorrow?" I said. "That's not enough time."

"It's all we have," he replied. "Selena's lawyers have already filed a motion to overturn the probate ruling. If we don't counter it, Maya could lose everything."

I looked at Maya, sitting quietly, her tiny fingers tracing the chess king. She was so young, so innocent. She had no idea what was at stake.

"I'll be there," I said. "I'll testify. I'll do whatever I need to do."

Judge Locke placed a hand on my shoulder. "We'll do this together. For Marcus. For Maya."

The night passed in a blur. We gathered documents, made copies, and rehearsed our statements. By dawn, we were ready.

But as I walked into the courthouse, I saw Selena being led in by her lawyers. She looked different — no longer smug, but desperate. Her eyes met mine, and for a moment, I saw fear.

"You think you've won?" she hissed as she passed me. "This isn't over. I have evidence too."

I tightened my grip on the USB drive. "So do I," I said.

The hearing began. Selena's lawyer stood first, presenting the forged crib log as proof that Maya was not the rightful heir. The judge listened, his expression unreadable.

Then it was my turn. I stood, trembling, and told the court about Marcus's letter. About the second envelope. About the video.

But before I could finish, Selena's lawyer interrupted. "Objection, Your Honor! This is hearsay!"

The judge raised his hand. "Overruled. Continue."

I played the video. The courtroom went silent. Selena's face turned white as the technician's testimony echoed through the speakers.

When the video ended, the judge looked at Selena with disgust. "Ms. Vance, you are under arrest for bribery, fraud, and obstruction of justice."

Selena screamed, but the officers were already pulling her away. She fought, she clawed, but it was no use.

Maya watched from the front row, her eyes wide. I squeezed her hand, feeling a surge of love and triumph.

But then the judge turned to me. "There is still the matter of the DNA report," he said. "If Maya is not Marcus's biological daughter, her claim to the estate is questionable."

My heart stopped. "But... she was adopted. She is his legal daughter."

"The adoption was never finalized," the judge said. "According to the records, Marcus died before the paperwork was completed."

I felt the world tilt. This couldn't be happening. After everything, we were still going to lose.

Maya squeezed my hand back. "Mommy," she whispered. "It's okay. We'll be okay."

But I wasn't sure. The judge was still looking at us, his eyes cold. And I knew that this was far from over.

And I knew that this was far from over.
