The neon sign of the Roadhouse Tavern flickered through the heavy Oregon mist, casting long, amber shadows across the gravel parking lot. Inside, the air was thick with the scent of stale beer, chain-smoke, and decades of grease. Seventy-year-old Sarah stood just inside the doorway, her boots dripping water onto the sawdust floor.
