A Seven-Year-Old Boy Entered My Bank With a Bag Packed With Cash
Jessica's morning at Oak Valley National Bank had been entirely routine until the heavy glass doors swung open to admit an unusual customer. A tiny boy, clutching a massive black canvas gym bag, trudged across the polished dark oak lobby. He couldn't have been more than seven years old. Jessica, wearing her favorite dark green cardigan, leaned over her counter and offered a warm, reassuring smile.
An Unexpected Deposit
"Hello sweetheart, are you here with an adult?" she asked gently.
The boy hoisted the heavy bag onto the counter with a loud grunt and unzipped it.
"No ma'am, I came alone. I want to open a savings account," he replied.
Jessica's friendly smile dissolved into absolute, paralyzing shock. Inside the bag lay neat, thick stacks of pristine hundred-dollar bills. There was easily a hundred thousand dollars sitting right in front of her.
"Oh my god. Where did this money come from?" Jessica gasped, her eyes wide as she scanned the quiet lobby.
The boy, who introduced himself as Max, looked down at his sneakers. He explained that his father had gone missing three days prior, leaving him with a neighbor. Max had found the bag hidden under his father's bed with a note that read: "For Max's future, keep it safe." Fearing someone would steal it, the brave seven-year-old had carried the fortune straight to the bank. Jessica's heart ached for the boy, but before she could call the authorities to help locate his father, a shadow fell over the counter. A tall, sharply dressed man in an expensive suit burst into the lobby, his face contorted with anger.
