Previously: When an arrogant socialite accuses a crying girl of stealing a rare ring, a boutique manager steps in—only to discover a heartbreaking secret that rewrites his entire past.

The Unveiling of a Long-Lost Secret

The boutique fell into a dead silence. Diana’s smug expression faltered, replaced by a sudden flash of anxiety. "Well?" she demanded, stepping closer to Thomas. "Give it back to me. I want this miserable little thief arrested right now!"

But Thomas didn't move. He couldn't. His eyes were locked onto the intricate engraving inside the inner band of the ring—a tiny, stylized rose next to the initials E.V.

"This ring..." Thomas murmured, his voice trembling with a mixture of awe and profound grief. "This was designed by my late father. It is a one-of-a-kind piece. Only one was ever made, created specifically for my wife, Evelyn, on the day our daughter was born."

Diana gasped, her face turning pale. "That’s... that’s a ridiculous coincidence! I bought that ring at an estate sale years ago. This girl must have slipped into my house and stolen it!"

"I didn't!" Sophie cried out, wiping her eyes with the sleeve of her yellow raincoat. "My mother gave this to me on her deathbed last week! She told me she had kept it hidden for nineteen years to protect me. She told me to come to this exact boutique, to find the man named Thomas, and to show him the ring."

Thomas’s heart hammered against his ribs. He looked from the emerald ring to Sophie’s tear-stained face. For the first time, he really looked at her. She had the same piercing gray eyes as his late wife, and the exact same delicate curve of the jaw.

"What was your mother’s name?" Thomas asked, his voice barely a whisper.

"Margaret," Sophie sobbed. "Margaret Vance."

Hearing the name, Diana suddenly lunged forward, trying to snatch the ring box from Thomas's hands. "This is absurd! This street rat is spinning a fantasy to escape jail! Give me my property!"

Thomas stepped back, shielding the box. "Margaret Vance was your sister, Diana," he said, his voice cold as ice. "The sister you claimed you hadn't spoken to in twenty years."
