Previously: A cruel orphanage director shoves a trembling 5-year-old toward the cellar. But when a billionaire couple kneels beside the girl, one glance at her collarbone changes everything — and exposes a decade-old crime.

The Reunion That Rewrote Everything

Three days later, Lorenzo and Sofia stood in a private room at the Metropolitan Police Headquarters, watching through a one-way mirror as Mrs. Finch was brought in. Her tweed suit was wrinkled, her hair disheveled, but her eyes still held that cruel spark.

"I want a lawyer," she said, her voice hoarse.

Detective Ramirez sat across from her, sliding a folder across the table. "You'll get one. But first, look at these."

He opened the folder to reveal photos of a beach house in Costa Rica, and a bank statement showing the three million dollars deposited into her account.

Mrs. Finch's face went white. "I don't know what that is."

"It's the payment you received from Edward Moretti," Ramirez said. "To take a newborn from the hospital and hide her in your orphanage. To ensure she was never adopted."

Mrs. Finch laughed — a bitter, broken sound. "You think you know everything? You think I'm the villain here?"

"You locked a five-year-old in a cellar," Ramirez said. "You called her a cripple. You sold her for money."

Mrs. Finch leaned forward, her voice dropping to a whisper. "I didn't take her for the money. I took her because Edward told me the truth — that the Moretti family was cursed. That the child would bring ruin to everyone who loved her."

"That's nonsense," Ramirez said.

"Is it?" Mrs. Finch smiled. "Ask Edward why he was so desperate to get rid of her. Ask him what he saw in the family Bible."

Lorenzo's hand tightened on the door handle. He turned to Marcus. "What is she talking about?"

Marcus looked uneasy. "I didn't mention this, but when I was digging through the Moretti family records, I found an old ledger. It said that the Moretti fortune was built on a curse — that the first Moretti made a deal with a witch to gain his wealth, and that every generation after would lose their firstborn child."

Sofia gasped. "That's a fairy tale."

"Edward believed it," Marcus said. "He thought that if he got rid of Maya, the curse would pass to his own children. He was protecting his family."

Lorenzo shook his head. "He was protecting his inheritance."

He pushed open the door and entered the interrogation room. Mrs. Finch looked up at him, and for the first time, there was fear in her eyes.

"Where is Edward?" Lorenzo demanded.

Mrs. Finch swallowed. "He's at the old Moretti estate. He's planning to flee the country tonight."

Lorenzo turned to Ramirez. "Get a warrant. We're going to the estate."

An hour later, a convoy of police cars rolled up the long driveway of the Moretti estate. Edward was standing on the front steps, a suitcase in his hand, when he saw the lights.

He ran, but the guards were faster. They tackled him on the lawn, and his face pressed into the cold grass.

"You can't prove anything!" he screamed.

Lorenzo walked over, his footsteps slow and deliberate. He crouched down, so his face was inches from his brother's.

"You took my daughter," Lorenzo said. "You paid a monster to keep her in a cage. And you did it all because of a fairy tale."

Edward's eyes were wild. "The curse is real! I saw it in the Bible!"

"There is no curse," Lorenzo said. "There is only greed. And you will rot in prison for it."

As the police hauled Edward away, Lorenzo pulled out his phone. He called Sofia, who was back at the penthouse with Maya.

"It's over," he said. "He's in custody."

"Come home," Sofia said, her voice soft. "Maya is asking for you."

Lorenzo smiled for the first time in days. "I'm on my way."

That evening, the three of them sat on the terrace, wrapped in blankets, watching the stars appear over the city. Maya was nestled between her parents, her small hand in Lorenzo's.

"Are you going to send me back?" she asked quietly.

Lorenzo pulled her closer. "Never. You are our daughter. And we will never let anyone take you from us again."

Sofia kissed the top of Maya's head. "We have so much time to make up for. So many birthdays, so many holidays, so many moments."

Maya looked up at them, her eyes wide. "Will you tell me stories about when I was a baby?"

"We'll tell you every story we know," Lorenzo said. "And we'll make new ones."

In the distance, the city lights glittered like scattered diamonds. And in that moment, the Moretti family was whole at last.

The curse was broken — not by magic, but by love.

And Maya, the girl who was once locked in a cellar, became the heiress to a fortune she never knew she had. But more importantly, she found the one thing money could never buy: a family that would fight for her, no matter what.
