She Boarded a Luxury Flight to Forget Her Past, But the Pilot's Face Changed Everything
Previously: Clara boarded the first-class cabin seeking a quiet holiday escape. But a single glance at the pilot standing in the cockpit doorway shattered her reality forever.
A Conspiracy at Thirty Thousand Feet
Her heart hammered against her ribs like a trapped bird. Clara stood up, ignoring the seatbelt sign that had just illuminated. "Ma'am, please remain seated," Sylvia said, her tone shifting from warm to sharply defensive. But Clara couldn't hear her. Her entire existence had just been upended.
"I need to speak to the captain," Clara demanded, her voice shaking but resolute. She pushed past the flight attendant, her eyes locked on the cockpit door which was now being closed. Sylvia quickly stepped in front of her, her hands raised. "Passenger access is strictly prohibited, ma'am. Please return to your seat immediately."
"That man is my husband!" Clara cried out, her voice cracking, drawing the attention of the few other passengers in the quiet cabin. "Arthur! Arthur, look at me!"
The cockpit door paused, then slowly creaked open again. The pilot stepped out, his face pale under the harsh cabin lights. He looked at Sylvia, giving her a silent nod. Sylvia hesitated, then stepped back, though her eyes remained wide with panic. It was a look of shared guilt, Clara realized. Sylvia wasn't just a flight attendant; she knew exactly who Arthur was.
Arthur closed the distance between them, his voice a low, desperate whisper. "Clara, please. You have to sit down. You're going to cause a scene."
"A scene?" Clara gasped, tears spilling over her lashes. "You died ten years ago! I held a funeral for you! My father told me your boat was found in pieces!"
Arthur looked around nervously, then took her arm, leading her into the galley away from prying eyes. "Your father lied to you, Clara," he whispered, his eyes filled with a decade of unshed tears. "He didn't save my life. He destroyed it. And he told me that if I ever came back to you, he would make sure you paid the price."
