Previously: A billionaire heir returns to her father's humble workplace to find him humiliated by a cruel manager. What she does next leaves everyone speechless — and changes everything.

The Showdown at the Gala

The next evening, Victoria stood in the grand ballroom of the Astoria Regency, dressed in a floor-length black gown, her hair swept up in a sleek chignon. She looked every inch the billionaire heiress — but inside, she was trembling.

She had called in every favor, used every connection, and pulled every string to arrange this gala. It was a charity event, but really, it was a trap. And tonight, she was going to spring it.

Gregory was there, of course, skulking in the corner with a glass of champagne. He had been banned from the hotel, but he'd shown up anyway, trying to weasel his way back into favor. Victoria watched him from across the room, her eyes cold.

And then the doors opened, and her stepmother walked in.

Eleanor was older now, her face lined with cosmetic surgery, her hair a brittle gold. She wore a scarlet dress that screamed for attention, and she moved through the crowd like she owned the place.

"Victoria darling," Eleanor cooed, kissing the air beside her cheek. "You look wonderful. Pity about your father."

"My father is fine," Victoria said, her voice flat. "He's at home with his grandson."

Eleanor's smile faltered. "Oliver. Yes. I've been meaning to discuss his custody arrangements."

"There's nothing to discuss," Victoria said. "He's with his grandfather. And he's staying there."

"We'll see about that," Eleanor said, her eyes hardening. "I have rights."

"You have no rights," Victoria said, stepping closer. "You faked your death. You abandoned your daughter. You've been plotting to steal this hotel from my father for years. And tonight, it ends."

Eleanor laughed, a brittle sound. "You can't prove any of that."

"Actually, I can." Victoria pulled a folder from her clutch and held it up. "Bank records. Emails. Text messages. A little bird named Gregory was very helpful once I threatened to expose his embezzlement."

Eleanor's face went pale. "You're bluffing."

"Try me," Victoria said.

She turned to the crowd, raising her voice. "Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention?"

The room fell silent. Eleanor looked like she wanted to bolt, but security guards had already materialized on either side of her.

"I have an announcement to make," Victoria said, her voice ringing clear. "Tonight, I am proud to introduce the true owner of the Astoria Regency Hotel — my father, David Sterling."

David stepped forward from the shadows, dressed in a simple black suit, his white hair combed back. Oliver stood beside him, holding his hand, looking up at the crowd with wide eyes.

"For the past twenty years," Victoria continued, "my father has worked in this hotel as a janitor. He did it to prove a point — that character matters more than title. And tonight, I'm proud to say that he is taking his rightful place as chairman of this company."

Eleanor screamed, a raw, furious sound. "You can't do this!"

"I just did," Victoria said.

She turned to the security guards. "Please escort Mrs. Sterling out. And make sure Gregory never sets foot in this building again."

As Eleanor was dragged away, screaming curses, Victoria walked to her father and took his hands. "It's over," she said softly. "You're home."

David's eyes were wet. "I'm so proud of you, Victoria."

"I'm proud of you too, Dad," she said. "For everything."

Oliver tugged on her sleeve. "Does this mean we don't have to scrub floors anymore?"

Victoria laughed, kneeling down to hug him. "No, sweetheart. No more scrubbing floors. From now on, we're going to take care of each other."

And as the crowd burst into applause, Victoria knew that she had finally found what she'd been missing her whole life: a family.

Later that night, in the quiet of her father's apartment, Victoria sat with Oliver on her lap, looking at old photo albums. David made tea in the tiny kitchen, humming a tune from his youth.

"Victoria," Oliver said, his small voice thoughtful. "Are we rich?"

Victoria smiled. "We're richer than we've ever been," she said. "Because we have each other."

And in that moment, the Astoria Regency Hotel became more than just a building. It became a home.
